Intel ISEF 2012 – Educator Academy 4 Main considerations INVOLVE NEW AGENTS AND INSTITUTIONS FOR EXTERNAL SOURCES OF ESPECIALIZED TECHNICAL ASSISTENCE. PROMOTE QUALITY OF SCIENCE FAIRS AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL AND NATIONAL LEVEL. MOTIVATION FOR SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND RESEARCH. PROMOTE BI NATIONAL FAIRS WITH LAR COUNTRIES.

Intel ISEF 2012 – Educator Academy 5 High Level Goals Short term goals –Organize teacher training program on research skills (“Students as Scientists) –Improve project evaluation through training programs for judges –Establish a bank of mentors to assist students in creating science projects –Start a program to follow up past winners of the National Sience and Technology Fair –Continuously improve local science fairs to international standards –Organize follow-up processes of different science fair-related activities –Strengthen local networks to improve organization of science fairs

Intel ISEF 2012 – Educator Academy 6 High Level Goals Long term goals (3-5 years) –Increase number of students participating in science fairs by 20% within 3 years –Incorporate teacher training program on research skills in the Ministry of Education’s National Teacher Training Program –Guarantee participation of all educational levels in science fairs (preschool to high school) –Incorporate the National Science and Technology Fair in regional education plans and motivating, planning its growth –Increase number of hours of teaching science in the education system –Strengthen national education policies that seek to improve science courses in schools

Intel ISEF 2012 – Educator Academy 7 Objectives Science and Technology to be universal in the education Peruvian system. Strengthen at an institutional level the MOE and the Center for Technology and Innovation “CONCYTEC”. In Peru, the education is decentralized in every region, so one of the objectives is to incorporate tools to integrate the regions and promote social inclusion through science. Search for expert coaching in STEM topics, promoting methodology and inquiry in education. Adopt a systemic curriculum changes ; train MOE officials in Intel programs at the high school level. Teachers trained in Project Based Learning (or Inquiry research).

Intel ISEF 2012 – Educator Academy 8 Objectives Student participation in science fairs will increase 20% within next three years. Promote teacher training program based on an inquired approached. Systemic changes in training programs: Include in teacher training plans, programs or activities that promote scientific investigation in schools. Institutionalize science fairs and maintain an investment budget for the development and relevant training of science fairs.
