First Class Scout badge The trefoil means that a scout can point the right way in life as truly as a compass can in the field. The three points, like the fingers of the Scout sign, stand for the three parts of the Scout Oath: duty to God and country, duty to others, and duty to self. The two stars symbolize truth and knowledge, and the outdoors in Scouting. The eagle with the shield stands for freedom and a Scout's readiness to defend that freedom. The scroll with the Scout motto is turned up at the ends. It is a hint that a Scout smiles as he does his duty. The knot at the bottom of the scroll is a reminder to Do a Good Turn Daily.

Popcorn Skit Scene 1: Doorstep of Telecommuter home Scout Parent: Stay out of the flowerbed! Scout: Hi, My name is _____. I am selling popcorn for my Cub Scout pack. Would you like to buy some? Telecommuter: Let me see what you are selling. Looks a selections. What is your favorite. Door Bell

Scout: I really like the chocolate caramel corn and the butter popcorn that I can make myself in the microwave. Telecommuter: Ooh. Sounds good. I think I'll order some. Scout: Would you like to buy a few extra cans to give to your friends? Telecommuter: Great idea — I have some clients that would like this stuff. When do I pay for all this? Scout:You could pay me now. That would help me a lot. When I deliver your order I could just leave it here on the doorstep if you are not home.

Telecommuter: Okay. Let me find my checkbook. Come on in while you're waiting. Scout: No thank-you. I'll wait out here. Telecommuter disappears for a minute. Returns with checkbook. Telecommuter: Whom do I make the check out to? Scout: Pack 802 Telecommuter: Is there sales tax? Scout: No, just the total of all these items you have ordered. Telecommuter: And when will this be delivered? Door closes

Scout: The weekend of November 13 th. Telecommuter: Sounds great. Thanks for coming! Scout: Thank-you for your order. Scout walks away with happy face. Heads to next door.

Scene 2: Doorstep of Dad without a clue Scout Parent: Stay on the pathway! Scout knocks on door. 'Dad' guy answers. Scout:Hi, My name is _________. I am selling popcorn for my Cub Scout pack. Would you like to buy some? Dad:Ah, I don't know. My wife may have already bought some. She's not here. Can you come back? Scout:Well, I guess I could... Scout Parent: I'm afraid not. It's getting dark so you have to stop selling for tonight. Knock on door

Scout: I'm sorry sir, I can't come back later today. Could you order some popcorn anyway? Dad: Well, okay. I was a scout myself and I remember how hard I worked to sell things to earn money. Scout: Thank-you. Here are the items we are selling. Dad: Hmm. I love caramel corn so I'll get some of that. And I always eat regular popcorn while I watch the football games. Scout: Maybe you would enjoy the 3-way tin over the Thanksgiving holiday? Dad: Yeah — that would be a good idea. (He completes form) Would you like me to pay now?

Scout: Yes, please. That way I can leave your order here if you aren't home when I deliver the popcorn. It will be delivered the weekend of November 13 th. Dad: Okay. Let me find my checkbook. Come on in while you're waiting. Scout: No thank-you. I'll wait out here. Dad: Well, actually, I think I'll pay cash. (Counts, marks, puts in envelope) Scout: Thank-you very much for your order. Dad: Good luck, kid.

(Scout & parent walk together offstage. Musical interlude while curtains close and table with phones are put in front of curtains. Scout walks back on) Scene 3: Telephone call to Uncle Charlie Scout complains that he wants to keep selling. Mom says it 's too dark. Scout asks if he can call his Uncle Charlie and get his order. Mom says she did mail his letter to him with a copy of the popcorn order form. Scout: places call. Hi Uncle Charlie. This is _________. Did you get my letter? Uncle Charlie: Yes I did. Thank you very much. Scout: Did you have a chance to look at all the popcorn stuff I'm selling?

Uncle Charlie: Yes I did. Now, where will the money from this popcorn sale go? Scout: Well, part of the money goes to our scout council. They use it to maintain our camps and pay for other stuff they provide us. Another part stays with our pack. We use it to pay for the service projects we do and to help pay for the activities and trips we go on. Uncle Charlie: I noticed you have kettle corn microwave popcorn, is that new this year? Scout: Yes it is. There were a lot of requests for it last year but you could only get it in the variety pack. This year it comes in it's own box.

Uncle Charlie: Sounds great, put me down for a box. I'll send you a $20 check. Whom do I make it out to? Scout: Write the check to Pack 802. Thanks a lot Uncle Charlie! I gotta go now- talk to you later. Uncle Charlie: Good luck with your selling! Bye.
