Mrs. Chasidy & Ms. Lisa October 19 th - October 23 rd Classroom News *Spanish words of the week: buenas noches (good night) *Wednesday is make up picture day! Please send a note to let me know if you want your child’s picture retaken. *The next PTA meeting is scheduled for Thursday night at 6:00. *Starting this week I plan to do something different with reading. I am going to allow students to choose 4 books for the month that they can read for their Tuesday night books. When our schedules are crazy it is hard to remember to send them home. Since they will have them in their bags I won’t have to worry. Please keep these in their book buddies (the zipper pouch in side their green folders). They will be asked to return them at the end of the month. If they do not return all 4 I will not send home any new books. Please help your child take care of the them and return them timely. *Please save one 1 gallon milk jug for our class. Please wash and rinse it out thoroughly and send them in by the 29 th. We are going to be making something with them on Oct. 30 th. Thank you! *Ms. Lisa’s birthday is next Monday. Though she probably doesn’t want me to advertise her age, I will tell you it is a special one! If you would like to help out in any way please let me know. I am wanting to do something extra special for her from the class. A Peek at our Week… * I can identify and read words with A & I. *I can add –s to show present tense. *I can write a personal narrative. *I can write in complete sentences. *I can read fluently and for understanding. *I can subtract numbers within 10. *I can use fact families to help me solve addition and subtraction problems. Practice high frequency words by playing a game. Here are a few examples… Slap that Sight Word: Arrange sight words in a row. Give your child a fly swatter and have them slap the sight word you say. Go Fish: Create two sets of sight words on index cards. Play go fish by matching sight words. Target Practice: Write sight words on a paper plate. Have students throw a ball at the sight word you say or shoot a Nerf gun at the sight word you say. Scrambled Eggs: Use letter tiles or cut up letters of a choice word. Put them in an Easter egg and have your child put the letters in order to spell the word. Sight Word Soccer: Write sight words on the lids of water bottles. Have your child read the word.
