The goal of the Central School District Library Media Program is to ensure that students become lifelong learners who are effective users of ideas and information. The idea is that these students will grow up to be globally minded, without having to be global travelers.
Each curriculum is designed around a guiding question, which must be answered using several different medias. New York State Learning Standards must be included in that guiding process. Standard 1: Language for Information and Understanding Standard 2: Language for Literary Response and Expression Standard 3: Language for Critical Analysis and Evaluation Standard 4: Language for Social Interaction Standards for the 21 st Century Learner
Grades: 3-6 Student Population: 600 Collection Size: apx.13,000 titles
The Librarian is helpful with: Discovering interesting topics Enhancing research skill of both teachers and students Improving writing skills of ideas Changing attitudes of doing projects and research Improving information seeking and use Student interaction Teacher interaction Fostering reading engagement Attributing to learning outcome
Promoting literacy is the second objective that we use to reach our goal of ensuring that students become life-long learners who are effective users of ideas and information.
