Basic Roles To provide effective cover behind the defensive line To counter attack by running the ball back towards the opposition To support attacks by joining the line as: support runner extra pair of hands dummy runner

Key skills of a Fullback Crewe & Nantwich RUFC Under 15’s Excellent kicking Excellent handling – especially high balls Speed and acceleration to counter attack Great vision Know when to hang back and when to join an attack Excellent tackling - you are the last man

None shall pass A good Fullback will Defend against chip and chase or grubbers - they will happen more in your half of the field Defend against high and long opposition clearing kicks Defend against attackers breaking through the defensive line Attacking by coming into the back line like a centre and supporting the wingers Communicate all the time What gives the full-back so much flexibility in their attacking position is they are never defended by their opposite number
