Welcome to Year Three Parents’ Evening Mrs Abbott and Miss Barlow Wednesday 1st October 2008

Agenda  This year’s curriculum.  Expectations of Pupils.  Homework  A.O.B.  Questions.  Handouts.

Subjects. English OLOR follow the National Primary Framework for Literacy. This covers speaking and listening, writing, reading and spelling. Try different ways of writing at home i.e. postcard, letter, information leaflet etc. Reading Each year 3 class has in place a different system for changing reading books. We have prepared a handout to explain the specific arrangements for each class. Please encourage your child to read a variety of other material. Children will be heard to read in guided reading groups, when they will be taught to use a variety of reading strategies..

Subjects Maths OLOR follow the Primary Framework for Mathematics. It is very important for the children to learn their times tables, including 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 and we will carry out times tables tests during the year. The children will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze Certificates as appropriate.

Topics We are moving towards a more cross- curricular approach in our teaching. Much of the work will be topic based. Our current topic is called Over the Ocean Waves.

P.E. All pupils need a navy tracksuit for outdoors PE in winter term! Girls need socks to keep in PE bags. All Kit must be labelled. Our areas of study in P.E. this year are: - Gym - Swimming (summer term) - Dance - Games with specialist coaches

Pupil Behaviour Rewards and discipline will always be in line with school policies. Parental support in such matters is very much appreciated.

Tips for Homework Find an area with flat surface and good light source Be interested, make time to talk about the work. Don’t let homework become a chore. Try to make it a special time that you both look forward to. Try not to be tempted to teach your child methods you used at school. Turn off the television. Be positive about your child’s efforts, encourage and praise your child as much as possible. We welcome written comments on any support given on any homework tasks.

A.O.B.  Correct school uniform to be worn at all times. With long hair tied back (any ribbons should be in school colours).  All items that belong to child should be named.  Jewellery should not be worn, with the exception of a watch.  Tests will be undertaken throughout the year.  Trainers may be worn at play times but school shoes must be worn to and from school.  Any snacks brought in for break must be healthy.  We encourage children to bring a named bottle of water.
