Question 5 – How did you attract your audience?

Marketing Tools Our target audience includes a wide variety of age groups but particularly 15+. A good method to spread the information about our film are things such as the advertising on TV, popular websites across the internet and maybe even local newspapers. I think Television is the best way to give people notice about our film because it is used a lot by everyone and all age groups so more it’ll spread faster as more people will see it and once people see it they’ll start talking about it.

Marketing Tools Pull advertising A good method for pull advertising is to have a page based around your film on ‘Facebook’. Because ‘Facebook’ has over 1 billion users, it is a very good way to spread the word about our new film. There is also a ‘twitter’ which has 232 million users which isn’t as much as ‘Facebook’ but still is a great way to get your film spread all over the internet.

Marketing Tools Push advertising Push advertising such as billboards, posters and TV adverts are quite cheap and effective ways for getting the film noticed to the public. Since the film is made by an independent company the billboards and posters will be very useful if they are placed around local areas because as people pass them they will take notice over the new film and what is on display therefore the word about your film gets around faster.

Marketing Tools Events Events such as TV interviews and cast attendance of other events which could be stuff like awards, media coverage through film festivals and test screenings are a very successful way for mainstream films. However since our film is an independent the chances are it isn’t going to be so successful with these methods because people are more interested and take more if a liking to big well known actors instead of upcoming talents.

Marketing Tools Attracting an audience We won’t have any massive well known actors that may attract an audience such as ‘Nicholas Cage’ or ‘Johnny Depp’ and we won’t have any big directors either, everything and everybody used will be new to the film industry. However, our distribution company is ‘Lionsgate’ so our distribution company could attract people because it is successful and a very well known distribution company in the film community.

Audience Feedback To review how our opening title sequence addressed our target audience, we showed our OTS to our target audience and received feedback for certain categories : -In terms of genre… -Effective mise-en-scene… -Cinematography wise…

Audience Feedback In terms of genre: Our opening title sequence was liked for genre in Many different ways. It was complemented for it’s narrative, the soundtrack we chose to create suspense suited the genre and the narrative, characters typically representing the genre for example the villain being a psychotic genius etc. The title name matched the narrative, and the hidden identity of the antagonist leaving it as a mystery.

Audience Feedback Effective mise-en-scene: Our opening title sequence was complimented for mise- en-scene once again in many different ways. This includes the locations we used, the costumes the characters were dressed in, the expressions of the characters making the scene feel more realistic as if it’s actually happening, controlled lighting to create the right mood to suit the thriller genre, the way we used the props we had such as a gun to represent the antagonist’s personality and level of psychosis and the photo’s to represent the past which had an effect on the antagonists future.

Audience Feedback Cinematography wise: Overall there were many different points talking about what was good for our OTS’s cinematography wise. Such as the black and white dull colour effect for the flashbacks which is how usually a flashback should be portrayed the black and white shows its in the past, the title placement using negative space, certain shots like a good point of view shot, the close up shot of candles, establishing shot of the building in the dark gave it a scary feel to it, extreme close up of the eye, the knife shot which shows the level of the antagonists psychosis, title fonts, slow motion effects that were used, transitions between videos and titles, good continuity and sound effects that were used such as the children playing when he’s thinking of his past.
