INDUS RIVER VALLEY VIRTUAL TREASURE CHEST BY: DYLAN DRAPER, MORIAH HAIRSTON ALANNA HAIRSTON, PAYTON DONAVANT

OBJECTIVE: The Piedmont Arts Association challenged Warrior Tech students to create a treasure box that will be used for educational outreach for local schools. We were asked to locate reproductions of art, books, games, videos and other objects to represent one of the ancient river civilizations. Our group chose the ancient Indus Valley Civilization (India).

TYPE OF RESOURCE: BOOK ITEM LOCATION: ITEM PRICE: $22.46 OVERVIEW: India: Brief History of a Civilization provides a brief overview of a very long period, allowing students to acquire a mental map of the entire history of Indian civilization in a short book. Most comprehensive histories devote a few chapters to the early history of India and an increasing number of pages to the more recent period, giving an impression that early history is mere background and that Indian civilization finds its fulfillment in the nation-state.

TYPE OF RESOURCE: BOOK, INDUS VALLEY GOVERNMENT Great Empires: An Illustrated Atlas (Hardcover) ITEM LOCATION: ITEM PRICE: $27.79 OVERVIEW: Much of human history is destined to be forgotten--but thousands of years have not erased the epic stories of the great empires of the world. Great Empires sweeps through the ages, uncovering the secrets of dynasties from the dawn of human civilization to the 20th century and tracing the path of power around the globe and across the centuries. Each chapter delves into the times, places, and historical forces that gave rise to legendary warriors, charismatic kings, and lasting dynasties. Organized in chronological order from 2600 B.C. to the 20th century, this comprehensive history weaves together a compelling portrait of more than 30 epic empires using dramatic images, intriguing sidebars, and easy- to-follow time lines.

TYPE OF RESOURCE: DVD Ancient India: A Journey Back in Time (Lost Treasures of the Ancient World) DVD ITEM LOCATION: ITEM PRICE: $12.96 OVERVIEW: The story of India is one of fabulous dynasties and kings, timeless belief systems and golden ages of culture. TYPE OF RESOURCE : Indus Valley Art (toys) FIGURE CART MOHENJO-DARO ITEM LOCATION: ITEM PRICE: $42.00 (Including Shipping) OVERVIEW: Replica of the clay figures found at Mohenjo- Daro. Archeologists believe the model shows how farm goods might have been transported from the fields outside of Mohenjo- Daro to the city market. Children may have played with toy-like terra-cotta models such as this one, along with other small clay figures of humans and animals that have been found at the Mohenjo-Daro site.
