Presentation transcript:

 AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based college level course.  It can be taken in junior or senior year.  This course mirrors an introductory level first semester university physics course.  This course is mainly address to students who are interested in science and/or plan to enter the field of general sciences (medical field, biotechnology, nursing, music, physical therapy)

 In this class you will - develop a deep understanding of foundational principles of physics in classical mechanics, electricity and waves and sound by applying these principles to complex physical situations that combine multiple aspects of physics rather than present concepts in isolation. - spend less of your time in traditional formula-based learning and more of their effort will be directed to developing critical thinking and reasoning skills. - design and conduct inquiry-based laboratory investigations to solve problems through first-hand observations, data collection, analysis and interpretation

 This course is an AP course available for a college credit giving the student the opportunity to bypass first semester of general physics. Obtaining a 4 or 5 (depending on the college) on the AP exam taken at the end of the year will allow the student to gain the college credit.

 In accordance with the College Board standards AP Physics 1 covers the following topics:  Newtonian Mechanics (including rotational motion)  Work, Energy, and Power  Work, energy and power  Introductory to Simple Circuits

 Several skills will be picked up by the student as they progress through the course. They will design their own experiments to explain real world physics in action. When they gather their data they will come to critically analyze it and write professional lab conclusions. Physics is a mix of hands on and observational learning and the experiments conducted will give them the skills necessary to construct and analyze real world phenomena.

 Section I  50 Multiple choice questions  50% of the final grade  90 minutes  Section II  5 Free response questions  Laboratory based and discrete questions  50% of final grade  90 minutes

 Students should have taken Algebra and Geometry, and laboratory based class.  They should have also taken and completed all previous science credits.  Honor Biology  Honor Chemistry
