Teacher Evaluation Danielson Framework Yukon Koyukuk School District New Teacher Training

Danielson Framework  Each teacher has a copy of Enhancing Professional Practice  Evaluation Instrument Is available free on-line  1 Framework  4 Domains  12 Components

Evaluation Quick Facts Based on Charlotte Danielson Smart Card contains basic ideas Evaluation will be on 12 specific Danielson components Rubrics for each component will make expectations clear SLO’s will not be piloted this year The new system will be more about coaching than evaluation “The quality of the coaching conversations is the linchpin of the system”

YKSD Danielson Smart Card 4 Domains 12 Components Each Component has it’s own Rubric. They are found on the YKSD website, under the curriculum and instruction tab. Let’s look at the Website! The YSKD Smart Card is the document that most clearly and briefly explains Danielson and evaluation expectations.

Component Analysis Domain 1, 2, 3, 4 5 minutes to plan for a 3 minute presentation For your group’s assigned domain, be prepared to share the answers to the following questions: What are your three components? How do your three components differ from each other? What stands out as interesting, important or needs more explanation?

Danielson Quiz 1.Ms. A couldn’t verify whether a certain student was absent a few weeks ago. 2.Ms. C had her class watch a video of the “I Have a Dream” speech, then guided them through questions that were factual, interpretive, and analytical in nature. 3.Students in Mr. H’s class are puzzled after he explains “slope” in Algebra. Instead of assigning problems like he had planned, Mr. H tried a different approach in clarifying the content. 4.Mr. B designed a rubric for student projects. It identified key elements of a good project and three levels of performance for each element. 5.Ms. W sends home newsletters with her elementary students that explain what the students will learn this week. 6.The students in Ms. L’s class begin work on a warm-up that is written on the board as soon as they walk in and sit down. Identify the component that each prompt addresses

Each of the 12 Components has a rubric of clear expectations

What is engagement? Students who are engaged exhibit three characteristics: 1)They are attracted to their work 2)They persist in their work despite challenges and obstacles 3)They take visible delight in accomplishing their work *Engagement is NOT just keeping busy. (Philip Schlechty, 1994)

YKSD Educator Evaluation System Requirements (Based on AK EED Requirements) SLO Pilot All teachers must Participate in a pilot on student learning data.  Observations (district may select a nationally recognized framework approved by the department)  Information from parents, students, etc.  Other information (as determined by the district) Information Sources YKSD Evaluation Components Results & Actions Professional Learning Focus for district & teacher. _____________ Annual Evaluation Alternative for the following school year (as determined by the district) District Support OR Plan of Professional Growth Plan of Improvement Proficient or higher on 4 standards and basic or higher on 1 standard. ____________ Exceeds the districts performance standards (as determined by the district) Basic on 2 or more standards Unsatisfactory on 1 or more standard For each teacher, the district must determine a performance rating based on SLO data that is shared with the teacher, but not reported to the EED. Domain 4 – Professional Responsibilities Domain 3 – Instruction Domain 1- Planning And Preparation Domain 2 – Classroom Environment Cultural Standards Performance Rating on each of the four ( 4) components  Unsatisfactory  Basic  Proficient  Exemplary

Performance Levels We live in “proficient” and we visit “exemplary” from time to time. What is the difference between Exemplary, Proficient, Basic, Unsatisfactory?

Do I get an overall evaluation rating? Your three components in each domain will result in the overall domain score Your four domain scores will result in the overall performance level of Exemplary, Proficient, Basic or Unsatisfactory Ratings will be earned for each of the 12 components

Performance Levels Let’s look at the following components… 1e-Designing Coherent Instruction 2c-Managing Classroom Procedures 3c-Engaging Students in Learning 4c-Communicating with Families

All teachers will pilot ONE SLO this year. We will be using MAP and PMAP scores “Interval of Instruction” will be Fall MAP to Spring MAP DO will pre-fill several of the boxes. SLO’s for It will NOT be part of your evaluation
