ROME VS. GREECE Which civilization is more advanced?

ROME  Rome was a thriving civilization that grew on the Italian Peninsula as early as the 8th century BC. Located along the Mediterranean Sea and centered on the city of Rome, it expanded to become one of the largest empires in the ancient world.

GREECE  Ancient Greece is a civilization belonging to a period of Greek history that lasted from the Archaic period of the 8th to 6th centuries BC to the end of antiquity (ca. 600 AD). Immediately following this period was the beginning of the Early Middle Ages and the Byzantine era.

ROME  Roman mythology is the body of traditional stories pertaining to ancient Rome's legendary origins and religious system, as represented in the literature and visual arts of the Romans. "Roman mythology" may also refer to the modern study of these representations, and to the subject matter as represented in the literature and art of other cultures in any period.

GREECE  Greek mythology is the body of myths and legends belonging to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. They were a part of religion in ancient Greece and are part of religion in modern Greece and around the world as Hellenismos. Modern scholars refer to, and study the myths in an attempt to throw light on the religious and political institutions of Ancient Greece, its civilization, and to gain understanding of the nature of myth-making itself.

ROME  The Roman Empire has many achievements, It conquered most of the known World in its day and invented hundreds of things that we still use today in short it brought civilization to a barbaric period for a Thousand years  Main Achievements include Roads, Aqueducts, Sanitation, Irrigation, Plumbing, Weaponry, Architecture, Government and hundreds more

GREECE  The achievements of ancient Greece had an immediate impact then and an even greater impact today. The Greeks created the ground layer for many ideas that countries still use today. The Greeks created democracy which is a form of government that many countries use or want to use. The Greeks also created drama. Today we have movies, Broadway shows and comedies. Also many ideas laid out by Greek philosophers are used in religion today. Every achievement that the Greeks made is still used today. All the ideas were expanded upon. And better things were created.

ROME  Famous people that are from rome are: Julius Caesar, Augustus, Mark Antony, Brutus, Pompey, Caligula, Nero, Romulus, Virgil, Commodus.

GREECE  Famous people from Greece are: Plato, Aristotle, Parmenides, Archimedes, Pythagoras, and Alexander the Great.

ROME  The Romans started their day with breakfast then the children went to school after that they go to a public bath. In the afternoon, wealthy people took some time to rest while the poor is working. Dinner was different from the rich and the poor.

GREECE  Men if they were not training in military, or discussing politics went to the Theatre for entertainment. To watch dramas that they could relate to, including tragedies and comedies. These often involved current politics and gods in some form. It is thought that women were not allowed to watch theatre or perform at the theatre, although male actors did play women roles.  Lives of Women in Ancient Greece were closely tied to domestic work, spinning, weaving and other domestic duties. They were not involved in public life or in politics. The live were normally quite confined to the house although one public duty was acting as a priestess at a temple.  Children in ancient Greece usually occupied their time playing with toys and games.

ROME  The Romans were polytheistic and much of their lives were spent in a fervent effort to please their gods. This was because ancient Romans believed that their gods had great influence over their daily lives and fates. In order to placate the gods, the Romans believed that certain rituals and rites must be performed in appreciation of the gods works.

GREECE  The Greeks believed that these gods and goddesses controlled everything in their lives and the environment. There was a god for every aspect of their lives. It was important to please the gods; happy gods helped you, but unhappy gods punished you.

ROME  Ancient Rome's writing system was basically the same as ours. However they didn't use the same rules of punctuation that we do. That is, most of the time they ran their sentences together without punctuation and in letters, some writers even talked about two different things in a single paragraph.

GREECE  The Greek alphabet is over 2500 years old! Even though it is very old, it still works. People living in Greece today use this alphabet to make words, just as we use our alphabet to make words.  Many people think the idea of an alphabet is an ancient Greek invention, but the Greeks borrowed their alphabet from another culture, the Phoenicians.
