Photosynthesis Cellular Respiration

Respiration Oxygen Carbon Dioxide Process by which humans breathe in Oxygen (O2) and give out Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Oxygen Carbon Dioxide

The Atmosphere Is made up of 78 % Nitrogen and 20 % Oxygen If we use up ALL the oxygen who produces more Oxygen? Trees – By the process of photosynthesis

Photosynthesis Is the process by which plants convert light energy to chemical energy (ATP) This takes place in the chloroplasts which contain chlorophyll (green in color) Plants require light, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) for this process They give out Oxygen (O2) and sugar (C6H12O6)

Photosynthesis ATP http://earthguide.ucsd.edu/earthguide/diagrams/photosynthesis/photosynthesis.html

Photosynthesis Equation __ CO2 + __ H2O C6H12O6 + __ O2 Balance the equation (R.H.S = L.H.S) Why do we need plants so much? Because plants create nutrients from inorganic materials. Plants take in CO2 and give out O2 sunlight 6 6 6

Cellular Respiration The reverse of Photosynthesis Happens in animal cells in the mitochondria What do we breathe in? Oxygen (O2) What do we give out? Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and water vapor (H2O) The process of breathing in Oxygen and giving out Carbon Dioxide and water vapor is called Cellular Respiration
