Welsh Health Impact Assessment Support Unit and West Midlands Public Health Observatory Training Course in Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Ready to do HIA 3 day Residential Course 5 th to 7 th October 2010 Gregynog, Powys, Wales Following the highly successful course in 2009 at Gregynog, West Midlands Public Health Observatory and Wales Health Impact Support Unit are once again offering a 3 day residential course in HIA. The expectation is that having completed the course participants will be able to lead a simple HIA or be a team member in a more complex HIA. The course is very practical and involves participants in planning an HIA for a realistic scenario. Topics covered include the stages of HIA, stakeholders, evidence, causal chains, key informants, public engagement, recommendations and reporting. Equity, and ethics of HIA are also discussed. A mixture of didactic teaching and working in small groups is used throughout. The course assumes students have attended the one day introduction to HIA course or have acquired a basic understanding of the principles of HIA. If there is sufficient demand a pre-course half day workshop will be offered immediately before the 3 day course on Monday 4 th October.

Faculty The Faculty will include: Chloe Chadderton, Cardiff University Liz Green, Wales Health Impact Support Unit Nick Hacking, Wales Health Impact Support Unit John Kemm, West Midlands Public Health Observatory Sue Wright, HIA Gateway Manager The Wales HIA Support Unit and the West Midlands PHO also offer one day Introduction to HIA courses, which are suitable preparation for the residential course. If there is sufficient demand an Introductory pre- course workshop will be held the day before the 3 Day course (4 th October) and is offered at the combined course price.
