Hello, How are you doing? Today, we are going to start a new lesson on Decimals.
Decimal Decimal - A number that uses place – value and a decimal point to show tenths and hundredths. Example – 1.52 Decimal Point – A point separating the ones and the tenths places in a decimal. Example – 0.45
Fraction Fraction - A number that names part of a whole or group. Example – Fraction of the shaded part is 2/3
Tenths Fraction of the shaded portion = 4/10 = 0.4 Ones.Tenths 0.4
How many tenths are shaded in the given figure? Answer – 6/10 = 0.6
Equivalent Decimals Decimals that name the same number. Example – 5/10 = 50/ = 0.50 are equivalent decimals.
Forms of Decimal For the fraction, 7/10 various forms of decimal are – Standard Form – 0.7 Place Value – tenths Word Form – seven tenths
Benchmark Equivalencies All of the given models represents the same decimals. ½ = 0.5

Important Tips In Decimals 0.6 and 0.60 are equal. They are equivalent decimals. In Fractions, 60/100 = 0.60 = 0.6 In Word Form, 0.5 can be written as 5 tenths.
