SAVING A GENERATION THROUGH EDUCATION AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT “What Does the Church Have To Do With It?”

SAVING A GENERATION If todays young people are to have an equal opportunity to survive in an ever changing, increasingly complex, and highly competitive world, they most pursue education and master the workplace skills necessary to compete. These facts are especially true for Black and other minority youth.

SAVING A GENERATION It is the joint responsibility of young people, parents, educators, the church, and the community to assure that the current generation does not get left behind! What Does the Church Have To Do With It?

SOME REASONS FOR ACADEMIC LETDOWN 1.Insufficient time spent in class preparation. 2.Failure to understand the nature of assignments or to clarify requirements with instructor. 3.Failure to carry out special assignments: papers, outside reading, and etc. 4.Lack of participation in class discussions or group projects. 5.Lack of knowledge about the use of reference materials. 6.Lack of ability to concentrate. 7.Lack of proper study environment. 7.Excessive participation in extra-curricular activities. 8. Excessive work demands. 9. Apparent lack of motivation or lack of interest in prescribed courses. 10. Lack of sufficient training in the basic skills. 1) Reading; 2)Writing; 3) Speech; 4) Mathematics

SOME REASONS FOR ACADEMIC LETDOWN - CONTINUED 11. Strained faculty and/or administrative relations. 12. Poor state of physical health: insufficient diet, lack of exercise or relaxation, abuse of drugs, or chronic illness. 13. Lack of vocational or education goals which are in keeping with student's ability or actual interest.
