Safeguarding Animal Health Terminal Learning Objectives Understand how to prepare your logistics warehouse or other type storage location to receive NVS countermeasures. 2 Training is designed to augment your organization's incident command system and logistics response training; not replace established processes or procedures

Safeguarding Animal Health Prepare for NVS Shipment Arrival If the supply unit and support personnel have not been mobilized, you must do so before the NVS shipment arrives:  Mobilize and brief personnel.  Conduct just-in-time training, as needed.  Conduct safety briefing for all supply unit personnel. 3

If you have not activated the warehouse or other storage facility to conduct logistics activities, you must do the following before the NVS shipment arrives:  Activate warehouse and equipment storage facilities.  Acquire supplies and equipment.  Check the temperature of the refrigerator to make sure it is operational.  Coordinate arrival of the NVS shipment.  Layout and set up the facility. 5

Safeguarding Animal Health Set Up the Warehouse/Storage Facility Prepare areas for receipt, storage, and issue of supplies:  Mark the facility floor to identify the general supplies, damaged goods, cold storage, secure storage, and material handling equipment storage areas.  Create a temperature monitoring log and ensure cold storage is at proper temperature.  Place materials, such as pallets, stretch wrap, cold packs, coolers, boxes, and packing slip envelopes in the staging area.  Create a distribution log. Set up an inventory management workspace and the inventory management system (IMS), if one exists, or the NVS State Inventory Management File (IMF). Enter information in the IMS or NVS State IMF, including the following: . customer information (response sites),  supplier information, and  warehouse storage locations Receive the NVS shipment file. 9

Safeguarding Animal Health Summary The purpose of this training is to provide stakeholders an additional training tool and is designed to augment information in your State, Tribe, or Territory NVS Plan and training conducted by your organization. Our objective is to provide supply unit and support personnel with an understanding of the individual actions, processes, and procedures necessary to prepare for the arrival of an NVS shipment. Other NVS logistics training briefs and tools, including the NVS Overview briefing, NVS State Plan Template, and the NVS Planning Guide for Federal, State, Tribe, and Territory Officials are available on the NVS website Questions about this briefing or other NVS tools should be addressed to the NVS staff at 10
