A butterfly begins life as an egg. Tiny butterfly eggs are usually laid on the leaf

A tiny larva or catterpillar hatches from the egg. It eats leaves and grow.

When the caterpillar has grown enough, it stops eating and it becomes a pupa and make a hard covering.

Inside the covering, the pupa slowly changes. Finally, adult butterfly comes out and flies away.
