Grammar For grammar various chapters will be covered including the following: Sentences – MP1 Nouns – MP2 Verbs – MP3 Modifiers (Adjectives & Adverbs) – MP4 Punctuation – MP1 Capitalization – MP1

Literature For literature the following will be covered: Short stories – MP2 Drama – MP2 Nonfiction – MP3 Poetry – MP3 The Novel – MP4

Writing and Speaking For writing and speaking the following will be covered: The writing process – MP 1, 2, 3 & 4 Narrative writing – MP2 Persuasive writing – MP 1, 2, 3 & 4 Informative writing – MP3 Writing a research paper – MP 1, 2, 3 & 4 Oral presentations – MP 2 & 4

Special notes Please note: The teacher reserves the right to add, delete, or modify this syllabus as the year progresses. Topics not covered in the order they are presented here * Please note * No Book socks of any type may be used to cover books! * All assignments must be completed on paper without frayed edges!

Grading All assignments given and activities completed are assigned a point value. Students receive points depending on how much of the assignment is done correctly. A student’s marking period grade is determined by dividing the points they have earned by the total possible points. This results in a percentage grade that will appear on their report card. Grades are entered into a computer-grading program which increases the accuracy of the percentages.
