ATTENDANCE

GHS ATTENDANCE POLICY… EXCUSED ABSENCES ▪ Attendance Office: ▪ Illness, Funeral, Family Emergency ▪ Allowed # of days absent +1 for makeup work to be turned in ▪ Doctor’s Excuse required when: ▪ Absence exceeds 2 days ▪ Total # of absences reaches 10 ▪ If you are absent or leave early, you are not permitted to attend school activities on that day(s) UNEXCUSED ABSENCES ▪ Any non-legal reason for missing school ▪ Missing bus/oversleeping ▪ No call-off ▪ All absences after 10 without a Dr. Excuse ▪ Skipping class (flicking) ▪ No makeup work allowed

TARDINESS……LEAVING SCHOOL… ▪ Not being in your seat at 7:25 bell ▪ Arriving at school between 7:25 – 9 AM ▪ All tardies are unexcused absences ▪ Students are allowed 4 tardies per semester without penalty ▪ 5 – 7: Detention ▪ 8 – 10: Friday School ▪ 11 – 20: Administrative Discretion ▪ 20+ : Truancy Charges ▪ Arriving late to class after bell rings ▪ Students will only be allowed to leave school when: ▪ A written request with a legitimate reason is provided by parents ▪ Parent/guardian comes to school to request the release ▪ Students will only be released to custodial parents/guardians ▪ Students must sign in/out

CODE OF CONDUCT

GHS CODE OF CONDUCT… ▪ School rules apply: ▪ Any time you are on school property ▪ To and from school on buses ▪ At any school-sponsored events ▪ On property connected to school events ▪ Please take time to review the section of your handbook dealing with the Code of Conduct

SCHOOL LOCKERS… ▪ Lockers are school property and may be searched at any time ▪ Students are responsible for: ▪ Upkeep of their locker ▪ Keeping combinations private ▪ GHS is not responsible for any missing items ▪ Sharing or switching lockers without administrative permission is prohibited

SCHOOL DRESS CODE… FULL EXPLANATION CAN BE FOUND ON PAGE 15 OF THE GHS STUDENT HANDBOOK ▪ Shorts/skirts must be mid-thigh ▪ Ladies ▪ Tops must cover area from neck to shoulder ▪ No cleavage or midriffs ▪ No revealing or see-through clothing ▪ Gentlemen ▪ No sleeveless shirts ▪ Dress Code Consequences ▪ 1 st Offense: Call home for change of clothes ▪ 2 nd Offense: ISS ▪ 3 rd Offense +: ISS + Administrative Discretion NOT ALLOWED ▪ Rips, tears, or holes in clothing ▪ Pajama pants ▪ Hats, head coverings, or sunglasses ▪ Gloves, jackets, or coats ▪ Studded accessories or chains ▪ Any item referencing alcohol, drugs, tobacco, gangs/cults, weapons/violence, sexual materials, or obscene language STAFF WILL MAKE THE FINAL DETERMINATION ON INAPPROPRIATE MATERIALS & CLOTHING

B.Y.O.D… ▪ Devices are allowed in halls and Commons ▪ Use in the classroom is up to each individual teacher ▪ Teachers will post their policy and discuss it with you on the first day of school ▪ It is each student’s responsibility to know and follow each teacher’s policy ▪ If your teacher does not allow devices, they must be SILENT and OUT OF SIGHT ▪ Failure to follow BYOD policy will result in an office referral and confiscation of the device ▪ Consequences will be at the discretion of the administration but may include: ▪ Keeping device for parent pick-up ▪ ISS, Friday School, and/or OSS

BULLYING AND HARASSMENT

BULLYING & HARASSMENT… ▪ GLS prohibits the harassment, intimidation of, bullying of, or “cyberbullying” of any student on school property, or at school-sponsored events. ▪ Students should report incidents of bullying, harassment, or intimidation to the principal or assistant principal, teachers, or counselors immediately.
