In 8 th grade social studies the curriculum is based on North Carolina in the American Experience from The Revolutionary War to the present infused with elements specific to the state of North Carolina. How much American history do you know? Let’s test your Civic Knowledge. Practice test Did you pass? Do you think most Americans would pass the naturalization test?

 What were some reasons and outcomes of exploration?  What was the Columbian Exchange and how could different groups have viewed it differently?

Positive  Trading of goods  New sea routes  Discovery of new land  New colonies Negative  The spread of diseases  The slave trade begins  Native people killed or enslaved

Brainstorm: What are some key factors to achieving great success?

1. Study! It is important to study for all quizzes and tests. Keep your notes and handouts organized to help with quiz/ test preparation. 2. Complete all assignments on time. It is much easier to keep-up than to catch-up! If absent, check the Wiki page to help keep up with missed homework. 3. Follow classroom rules/ procedures. 4. Ask for help and never, ever give up! 5. Stay organized!
