Welcome to 9 th Lit/Comp Mrs. Heinzer

Daily Agenda  Collect handouts:  Syllabus Scavenger Hunt  Introduction to Mrs. Heinzer’s Class  Supplies:  Interactive Notebooks  First Assignment: Syllabus Scavenger Hunt  Due Friday 8/7 at the beginning of class

About Me Family Traveling Reading Friends Music Movies

Great Expectations  Have an opinion, however, be respectful to other’s opinions as well.  Take from the opportunities this class provides to you. Projects are designed to suit each student’s uniqueness and personal identity. Make theses projects your own.  Test. I am attempting to limit test to the bare minimum. This can only work if you as the student shows me mastery of literature and writing through projects, papers, and assignments. However, I am prepared to use test as an alternative. Much of the make-up of this class is created by you, the student.  Challenge yourself, be creative, take responsibility for your own learning, and you will be rewarded with the most invaluable life accomplishment, and education..

Nuts and Bolts  I keep due dates on the board. Also, you will never have to ask what we are doing today because it is listed on the board. Majority of the time I will have instructions to get class started.  Learning devices are acceptable, but are only allowed during independent work time, before the bell rings, and downtown at the end of class (at teacher’s discretion.)  Coffee shop atmosphere. Talking with your partner, or during down time is fine, however, keep conversations to a comfortable level, as if you were enjoying coffee in a café. Noise level reminders: 1 flick of the light is the warning. 2 flicks means conversations must end and work quietly.

NY Times Word of the day:  Record today’s NY Times Word of the day. Make sure you list out all the required information: Part of speech (verb, noun, adjective) the definition, and use it in a sentence.  If you are absent you can easily go to the website and search past words.

Syllabus: Your first assignment Complete the Syllabus Scavenger hunt. Most of the answers are in the handout, but several you will find on my website. Due Date: Friday at the beginning of class. You may use the rest of the class time to work on the scavenger hunt. If you do not have access to my website on your learning device, you may use one of my laptops. You may use learning device and listen to music during this time. But must work quietly during this time. I will stop you 2-3 minutes before the bell rings and you may socialize.
