Textbook Scavenger Hunt  On a separate sheet of paper, complete the following scavenger hunt.  Find 2 short stories. Title/Author/page  Find 2 non-fiction selections. Title/Author/page  Find publisher and copyright date of the text.  Find 3 poems. Title/Author/page  Find a play. Title/Author/page  Find 2 essays. Title/Author/page  Write Title/Author/page of a selection that looks interesting to you and tell why.  Read two pages of your choice and give a 3- sentence summary of those pages.

Friday, August 14th  Complete and turn-in Story Maps from “The Necklace”  Look up vocab. from “The Necklace”— make sure to guess what the word means first!  Capitalization Rules #1 and Practice  Take notes on nouns (pg. 1180) and complete Activity A #1-25

Monday, August 17 th  Warm-up: Grammar corrections Paragraph written on board  Go over vocabulary words  Notes on Nouns from pg  HW: Complete a creative paragraph using at least 7 of the 10 vocabulary words. Turn in tomorrow at the beginning of class.

Tuesday, August 18th  Vocabulary Quiz Review/Practice  1 st period only-notes on nouns  Other periods-finish noun notes  Rewriting the end of “The Necklace”  HW: study for vocabulary quiz. Finish rewrite if not done in class.

Wednesday, August 19 th  Study for Vocab and Necklace Quizzes  Turn in to the box when you are done  Pick up new vocabulary sheet for “The Gift of the Magi”  Complete—Make sure to complete the entire first column on “What You Think The Word Means” before moving to the definition

Thursday, August 20 th  Journal: Think of your most prized possession. What is the one thing you would want to rescue if your house was burning down? Why is it special to you?  Read “The Gift of the Magi” starting on pg.152  Complete the “Guided Reading Packet as you read  Turn in at the end of class, no matter if you finish or not.
