Introduction to Energy Monday, September 8, 2014

Monday, 9/8 Unit 2: Work, Power, and Energy  Pick up a handout from the Physics bin.  Complete question 1 and 2 from the handout for your warm up (you will have 3 minutes).  Upcoming dates  Quiz – Friday, 9/12  ‘B’ day Unit 2 test – Thursday, 9/18  Last day to turn in 1SW extra credit – Friday, 9/19

1. If you go to school without eating breakfast how do you feel by the middle of the morning? 2. If a teacher says “Sally has high potential”, what does that mean about Sally? Can you measure ‘high potential’?

Energy Scavenger Hunt – 15 minutes With your group members you will:  Review the different forms of energy and descriptions  Find a image at your station that matches the form of energy.  Re-create the image in the visual representation box.

Energy – real life depiction Watch video

Energy – Cornell Notes Read the Cornell Notes (CNs)  As you read the CNs highlight the words below:  Highlight the following words  Energy  Joules  Work  When you are finished highlighting your notes solve the work problem at the end of the notes.

What work is done when a refrigerator is pushed uniformly 12 m across the floor. The applied force is 480N. G: d = 12 m f = 480 N U: W E: W = f x d S: W = (480 N)(12m) S: W = 5760 Joules

Let’s meet Benny!

Chrome book changes  When you pick up your Chromebook log in and change the network to GCISD-M.

Complete the practice problems with your elbow partner.  When you pick up your Chromebook log in and change the network to GCISD-M.  Access the practice problems on my webpage.

Summary On the bottom of your note packet write a two sentence summary about what you learned.
