CONGRUENCY

WHAT IS CONGRUENCY?

 If two things are congruent, then they are the…  Same size  Same shape  Two shapes that are congruent are identical.

TAKE A LOOK!

WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY HAVE THE SAME SIZE, BUT NOT THE SAME SHAPE?

THEY ARE SIMILAR!  What does that mean?  Resembling without being identical is what the dictionary says  What does it mean with shapes?  They have the same shape, but not the same size.

LETS GO ON A SCAVENGER HUNT!  Directions:  Get into groups of three (There might be one group of four).  Select one member from the group to come see me.  Once a shape has been assigned to your group you will begin to explore the classroom looking for a cut out with your team’s shape or color (HINT: There will be six shapes you will find).  Once you find all of the shapes, go back to your seats as a group.  Take the shapes and sort them using the labels (Congruent, similar, neither).  Once you are finished raise your hand and I will come and check your work. REMEMBER: We are to stay quiet and work together as a team!
