Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Requirements Consolidation of the Near-Infrared Channel of the GMES-Sentinel-5 UVNS Instrument: Status/ plans R.Siddans PM2: 28 February 2014

Plans following 21 January Telecon 1.Completion of pre-MTR work plan 2.Compilation of error budgets for each application 3.Added value of O2-B vs O2-A for NIR/SWIR application 4.Non-linear simulations for cloud/UV species, focussing on O2-B vs O2-A Benefit of adding thermal-ir (imager) to constrain cloud thickness 5.Assess aerosol layer height from concept A 6.Assess impact of scene inhomogeneity for concept A for cloud/UV and H2O applications.

Compilation of Error budget tables For each application Aerosol profile from Concept A+B Tropospheric +BL column O3,NO2,CH2O,BrO CH4 from SWIR (wrt NIR band errors) H2O All for concept A except aerosol profile Instrumental errors mainly from study retrieval simulations, other errors from literature/previous work In particular adds ISRF asymmetry to previous “basic simulations” Circulate consolidated tables in 2 weeks (14 March) ? Telecon to discuss in following week ?

Schedule FP ESTEC – scheduled for Thu 3 April Consolidation of final report 1 week in advance will be difficult. Is delaying to later in April possible ?

Plans Application 1=height resolved aerosol 2=cloud/uv-vis 3=NIR for SWIR, 4= H2O.
