Music Theory Review 1/12 – 1/15

Tuesday 1/13/2015 Vocabulary for today: Solo Tutti Repeat Signs Duets Harmony

Solo A SOLO is when ONE person is performing.

Tutti TUTTI is when EVERYONE plays together.

Turn & Talk What is a common mistake someone would make when they see the word “tutti”?

Perform an example #28 “Good King Wenceslas” is an example of Solo & Tutti

Repeat Signs -are usually at the END of a song -Look like : kind of like a colon -Indicate that you should play the song TWO times

Turn & Talk IN your opinion are repeat signs easier to read than writing the same music out two times? Why?

Perform an Example #17 “Quarterly Report” is one of the first songs we learned with a repeat sign.

Duet A DUET is a piece of music for TWO performers.

Perform an Example #27 “Lightly Row” is a duet we learned earlier this semester, written for two parts. T&T: What does a duet look like in our music?

Harmony Sometimes when performing duets HARMONY can be created by TWO different notes being played at the same time.

Perform an Example 2 Volunteers: #27 Lightly Row, measures 1 & 2 Is an example of HARMONY
