Ancient Egypt By Jack Year 1 (6 yrs)

Education  Paper was made from thinly sliced papyrus stems.  Junior scribes practiced writing (hieroglyphs) on broken bits of stone.  Student scribes had lessons in astronomy, mathematics, astrology, arts, and games and sports.  Classroom discipline was very strict.  The boys that did not become scribes followed in their “fathers footsteps.”

Art AAAArt was beautiful in Ancient Egypt even though Ancient Egypt was just an early civilization. PPPPeople scraped the sooty undersides of cooking pots, crushed charcoal or burnt bones into powder just to make black paint!

Culture  (more info in page 5)  Egyptian sculptors carved enormous stone statues of their pharaohs and gods.  Egyptian doctors knew how to set broken bones and treat illnesses such as fevers.

Families Family life played an important role in ancient Egypt. The man was the head of the Egyptian household. Animals were part of the household. When a pet cat died, the whole family shaved their eye brows off in mourning. Adults played senet, a game with movable pieces on a rectangular board marked with squares. Most families lived along the banks of the river Nile or in the river valley.
