VSBA 5K Walk/Run Understanding School Boards in a Democracy Foundational course Explores the purpose of the board of education Looks at concept of the “good life” in schools & communities Focuses on values that serve as basis for decision making Discusses skills needed for boards to solve public problems

VSBA 5K Walk/Run Participation is Required! Courses are designed to encourage participation Not just a “sit and get” Interaction, discussion, and reflection are required

VSBA 5K Walk/Run Future Courses Possible titles: Working with Conflict Improving Board/Superintendent Relations Solving Problems and Making Decisions Connecting with the Community Managing Meetings Planning the Evaluation of the Superintendent Evaluating the Board

VSBA 5K Walk/Run Steps in the Process 1.Discuss Master Training Program with board members and superintendent 2.Reach participation agreement (100%) 3.Contact Samantha Staebell at VSBA to schedule workshops

VSBA 5K Walk/Run Recognition Boards who complete the 3 core (Level 1) courses of the Master Board Training Program will be recognized at the annual conference and will be awarded certificates of completion. Awards will also be given for the completion of additional training levels.
