Discussion on Test Questions

Q1. Compare and contrast between information and knowledge InformationKnowledge Data that was converted into meaningful and useful context for end users e.g Price List for suppliers An understanding or a familiarity develop from looking/studying the information, can lead to decision making Supplier B is too far and expensive compared to Supplier A and Supplier B. Supplier C offers the best price SupplierLocationPrice AKL$2600 BPort Klang$2500 CKajang$1900

Q2. Describe Information System A combination of hardware, software, network, data, people and procedures organized together to facilitate planning, control, coordination, and decision making in an organization.

Q3. Describe Decision Support System Supports complex non-routine query/decisions. Process the data collected through transactional system. Used by management whose decisions and what-if analysis are less structured. E.g. Answer question such ‘which female permanent employee sells the most product in the last quarter?’

Q4. One of the characteristics of a good information is it has to be “worth its cost”. Explain this notion and include an example to support your answer The cost to get information should not be higher than the advantage the information can bring to us E.g. To get feedback about a newly introduced product, Tesco may want to obtain the information through Facebook instead of holding a group interview session/focus group with the customers. The preparation for invitation, setup of physical location, event managing, refreshments and gifts to hold the interview can be time consuming and costly.
