The Lord will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king, and exalt the power of his anointed. 1 Samuel 2.10

Blessed assurance, Jesus is Mine: O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God; born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture burst on my sight; angels descending, bring from above echoes of mercy, whispers of love. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long.

Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Saviour am happy and blest; watching and waiting, looking above, filled with His goodness, lost in His love. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Saviour all the day long. Frances van Alstyne and Fanny J Crosby

Our Lord Jesus Christ said: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22.37–40, Mark 12.30–31

Let us pray. Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, welcoming refuge for the outcast, and upholder of justice for the oppressed: maintain the hope of the poor, so that the time may soon come when no one need want for food and shelter, and all will learn to share freely following the example of your Son, who gave his very self; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

P SALM Song of Hannah APBA Page 429

My heart exults in the Lord: my strength is exalted in my God. My mouth derides my enemies: because I rejoice in your salvation. There is no Holy One like you, O Lord: nor any Rock like you, our God. For you are a God of knowledge: and by you our actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty are broken: but the feeble gird on strength. Those who were full now search for bread: but those who were hungry are well fed. The barren woman has borne sevenfold: but she who has many children is forlorn. Both the poor and the rich are of your making: you bring low and you also exalt. You raise up the poor from the dust: and lift the needy from the ash heap. You make them sit with the rulers: and inherit a place of honour. For the pillars of the earth are yours: and on them you have set the world.

Be Still and know

Be still and know that I am God. I am the Lord that healeth thee I am the Lord that healeth thee I am the Lord that healeth thee.

In Thee, O Lord, I put my trust. In Thee, O Lord, I put my trust. In Thee, O Lord, I put my trust. Morris Chapman © 1983 Word Music (UK)/CopyCare Ltd

A Reading from Mark Chapter 13, Verses 1-11 Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ For the Gospel of the Lord, Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

SERMON

Let us together affirm the faith of the Church: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ has promised that you will hear us when we ask in faith: receive the prayers we offer.

Accept our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen.

We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. Let us then run our race, laying aside every weight and bringing our sins to the Lord in penitence and faith.

Heavenly Father, you have loved us with an everlasting love, but we have broken your holy laws and have left undone what we ought to have done. We are sorry for our sins and turn away from them. For the sake of your Son who died for us, forgive us, cleanse us and change us. By your Holy Spirit, enable us to live for you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We are the body of Christ His Spirit is with us The peace of the Lord be always with you And also with you.

Beauty for brokenness, hope for despair, Lord, in the suffering, this is our prayer. Bread for the children, justice, joy, peace, sunrise to sunset your kingdom increase.

Shelter for fragile lives cures for their ills, work for the craftsmen, trade for their skills; land for the dispossessed, rights for the weak; voices to plead the cause of those who can’t speak.

Chorus God of the poor, friend of the weak, give us compassion we pray; melt our cold hearts, let tears fall like rain. Come change our love from a spark to a flame

Refuge from cruel wars, havens from fear, cities for sanctuary, freedoms to share, peace to the killing-fields, scorched earth to green; Christ for the bitterness, his cross for the pain.

Rest for the ravaged earth, oceans and streams, plundered and poisoned, our future, our dreams, Lord, end our madness, carelessness, greed; make us content with the things that we need.

Chorus God of the poor, friend of the weak, give us compassion we pray; melt our cold hearts, let tears fall like rain. Come change our love from a spark to a flame

Lighten our darkness, breathe on this flame until your justice burns brightly again; until the nations learn of your ways, seek your salvation and bring you their praise.

Chorus God of the poor, friend of the weak, give us compassion we pray; melt our cold hearts, let tears fall like rain. Come change our love from a spark to a flame.

All glory and honour be yours always and everywhere, mighty Creator, everliving God. We give you thanks and praise for your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ, who by the power of your Spirit was born of Mary and lived as one of us. By his death on the cross and rising to new life, he offered the one true sacrifice for sin and obtained an eternal deliverance for his people.

And now we give you thanks Because you have called us into the fellowship of all your saints, and set before us the example of their witness and the fruit of your Spirit in their lives. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. And now, gracious God, we thank you for these gifts of bread and wine, and pray that we who receive them, in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, according to our Saviour’s word, in remembrance of his suffering and death, may share his body and blood.

On the night before he died, Jesus took bread, and when he had given you thanks he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat. This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’

After supper, he took the cup, and again giving you thanks he gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Drink from this, all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in Remembrance of me.’ We eat this bread and drink this cup to proclaim the death of the Lord.

We do this until he returns. Come, Lord Jesus! Father, as we recall his saving death and glorious resurrection, may we who share these gifts be renewed by your Holy Spirit and united in the body of your Son. Bring us with all your people into the joy of your eternal kingdom, there to feast at your table and join in your eternal praise:

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive praise and honour and glory and power for ever and ever. Amen. We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.

C OMMUNION H YMN : Like a Mighty River Flowing

LIKE A MIGHTY RIVER FLOWING Like a mighty river flowing, like a flower in beauty growing, far beyond all human knowing, is the perfect peace of God. Like the hills serene and even, like the coursing clouds of heaven, like the heart that’s been forgiven, is the perfect peace of God.

Like the morning sun ascending, like the scents of evening blended, like a friendship never ended is the perfect peace of God. Like the summer breezes playing, like the tall trees softly swaying, like the lips of silent praying is the perfect peace of God.

Like the azure ocean swelling, like the jewel all-excelling, far beyond our human telling is the perfect peace of God. Michael Perry 1942-

God, the source of all holiness: may we who have shared at this table as strangers and pilgrims on earth be welcomed with and all your saints to the heavenly feast in your kingdom.

Father, we offer ourselves to you as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ our Lord. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory.

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God's people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

God give you grace to follow all the saints in faith and hope and love; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen
