Easter Fri 3 rd April- Mon 6 th April 10am-10pm Dr Guy Mansford, Clinical Lead, Nottingham West CCG

Built for 350 patients per day Staffing issues Flow through and out of hospital

To see 100% of walking wounded. To see if 3 GP’s could keep up with work load To see if we could send home 50% of work

 A total of 507 out of 623 adult self-presenters were seen by the GPs  GPs saw 81% of all adult self-presenters  Some obvious cuts/fractures were seen directly by nurses

Patients were seen quickly and no delay over the usual triage nurse system 54% of all adult self-presenters were re-directed away from ED 203 patients discharged straight home 71 were sent to NEMS

There was no increase in re-attendance Patient satisfaction was higher than with standard ED

 Positive experience -patients, GPs, ED staff and NEMS.  High morale in department.  Case mix of patients – ‘GP light’  4 hour GP shifts are appropriate  Enabled ED staff to see their patients earlier  Proof of concept – 3GPs at the front door appeared to offer appropriate capacity  Co-ordinator required for future trials  GPs regularly doing shifts would speed up

 Need to include children  Repeat trial over Whitsun Bank Holiday w/e  Consider commissioning service full time
