LONGCAUSE EXPRESSIVE ARTS SUCCESS By. Miss Grayson (Expressive Arts Subject Leader)

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST On the 10 th June 2010 pupils at Longcause joined with Plym Kids theatre group to produce a show of Beauty and the Beast.  63% of pupils were activity involved in the show.  26% of those pupils had individual acting/singing or dancing roles. (These statistics include a range of pupils across all Key Stages)

THE SANTA TRAP In December 2011 pupils at Longcause produced the Christmas production of The Santa Trap.  46% of pupils were actively involved in the show. This included narrators, dancers, actors and singers. These pupils came from all key stages within the school.  The rest of the pupils within the school joined the chorus for the additional Christmas songs that were included in the show.

THE ELVES AND THE SHOW MAKER Pupils at Longcause were given the opportunity to visit the Theatre Royal to watch The Elves and the Shoe maker in January  82% of pupils attended the Theatre production. Following the show The Theatre Royal offered the school the opportunity to complete a 2 week project, based on The Elves and the Shoemaker in school.  47% of pupils were involved in this project.  21% of these pupils were on the art team.  5% of these pupils were on the technical team.  21% of these pupils were on the acting team. Together the team produced all aspects of the show, collaborating together across all key stages.

PETER PAN 2012 Pupils at Longcause were given the opportunity to participate in the Christmas production of peter Pan. 39% of pupils took part in the show. These pupils each had individual roles within the show. The pupils came from a range of key stages. The show raised £200 for the school..

LONGCAUSE HAS TALENT 2012 Longcause Has Talent took place in July Pupils involved in the show were expected to create their own acts to perform.  21% of pupils participated in the show independently creating their own performances. The performances ranged from acting, dancing and singing acts. Many pupils worked in pairs to produce a final performance. All pupils across all Key Stages were invited to take part in the show.  14% KS1 pupils  19% KS2 pupils  47% KS3 pupils  19% KS4 pupils  The event raised £140 for school funds.

LONGCAUSE HAS TALENT 2013 Longcause Has Talent took place in July Pupils involved in the show were expected to create their own acts to perform. 6% more of pupils took part in the show last year.  27% of pupils participated in the show independently creating their own performances. The performances ranged from acting, dancing and singing acts. Many pupils worked in pairs to produce a final performance. All pupils across all Key Stages were invited to take part in the show.  7% KS1 pupils  18% KS2 pupils  33% KS3 pupils  11% KS4 pupils  The event raised £90 for school funds.

THE DANCE PROJECT (YEAR 1) Longcause school is currently part of a three year dance research project. The focus of the project is to find out whether focused dance sessions can impact on the social skills of pupils with autism. The project takes place each Thursday within school.  12% of pupils are involved in this project.  In many cases the pupils showed good progress and improved social skills.  The pupil showing the most progress was the only pupil who received 1-1 sessions. A film was created to show her success, as it had tremendous impact on her social skills.  All the pupils involved in the project attended a performance and workshop day at The Plymouth Life Centre. This event joined all the special schools in Plymouth together. Longcause pupils performed their dance to the rest of the schools.

THE DANCE PROJECT (YEAR 2)  Due to the success of last years Dance research project, 4% of pupils taking part in the dance research project are now receiving 1-1 dance sessions each week.  The aim of this is to investigate whether increasing results will be achieved through this method.  8% of pupils will continue in groups for these sessions. As it is felt it is more effective for these individuals.

THE NATIVITY  In December 2013 pupils at Longcause recreated the story of The Nativity.  7% of pupils with speaking/singing roles were in KS4.  8% of pupils with speaking/singing roles were in KS3.  7% of pupils with speaking/singing roles were in KS2.  All of KS1 were part of the play as part of RE curriculum expectations.  A real Donkey was part of the show! Over £200 was raised during the evening through ticket sales and refreshments sold.

FASHION SHOW  On February 13 th February 2014 pupils took part in a whole school fashion show. Pupils were keen to be part of the show to show off their favourite clothes.  Over £200 was raised during the show through ticket sales.  The show also gave the opportunity for families to see and purchase the ‘Auty not Naughty’ clothing range, which is designed by a parent of the pupil at the school.

DANCE PROJECT (YEAR 3)  Due to the success of the past 2 years Dance research project, 6% of pupils taking part in the dance research project are now receiving 1-1 dance sessions each week.  The aim of this is to investigate whether increasing results will be achieved through this method. There has been an increase in social interaction as a result of this.  8% of pupils have continued in groups for these sessions. As it is felt it is more effective for these individuals.  This year many of our more able foundation pupils have created a group. There has been a noticeable change in their behaviour towards dance during their time in the sessions.
