Students learn how to interact successfully with people from different cultural backgrounds and conduct a cross-national study. At the University of Tartu in Estonia Estonian Society and Identity (.75 unit) Estonian Language and Culture (.75 unit) Cross-Cultural Psychology I (.50 unit) Advanced Research Seminar I (.25 unit) At the Arabic Language Institute in Fez, Morocco Moroccan Women, Arts, and Literature (.75 unit) Moroccan Arabic Language and Culture (.75 unit) Cross-Cultural Psychology II (.50 unit) Advanced Research Seminar II (.25 unit) Excursions in Morocco (tentative): 8 days in southern Morocco (Atlas Mountains, Sahara, Todra Gorge, Marrakech, Essaouira, & Casablanca); weekend in Meknes (with Sufi concert) and Roman ruins at Volubulis. Optional weekend trip to Rabat, the capital city. Students pay Beloit tuition, room, and board to participate in the program. Financial aid can be applied to the program for eligible students. Airfares and incidental expenses are additional.  “We were LIVING cultural psychology instead of just studying it.”  “I definitely came away from the program looking at the world in a different way.”  “The opportunity to do independent research was amazing. The projects were all high quality.”  “The Moroccan and Estonian professors were excellent, as well as the host families.” Excursions in Estonia (tentative): 3 days in Tallinn’s medieval Old Town, 3 days in Narva and the “Russian region,” and 3 days of folk arts and music in South Estonia Group Activities: Visits to medieval cities, castles, museums, madrasahs, souks, a hammam, smoke sauna, and an underground oil shale mine. Music concerts, dance lessons, and cooking lessons. Conversations with local students and scholars.  Next offered in Fall 2012  Live & study in European Estonia & Islamic Morocco  Students conduct an independent research project.  4.5 Beloit College units (18 semester credit hours)  Students live with a host family in each country.
