Quiz Who or what are the following? Factory system Eli Whitney Samuel Slater Short answer- pick 2 of the 3 discuss how Industrial Revolution changed the US. Why were the factories founded in the North? How does this affect the South? Why were interchangeable parts such a big deal?

Learning targets review I can explain the roles Samuel Slater and Eli Whitney had in the Industrial Rev in the US I can explain what the factory system is I can discuss how Industrial Revolution changed the US.

Learning targets for today I can explain the Lowell mills I can explain how technology helped with Industrial Rev I can discuss how the steam engine changed the world

Working at the Mill Slater starts the 1 st textile mill in the US. Lowell 1 st to use women as workers Brought about the factory system ( workers and machines under 1 roof) located in N.E. to start because of the fast moving rivers

Harnessing steam Using steam to run engines in machines. Steamboat could be used to travel up and down rivers/waterways much quicker than sailing ships.- Robert Fulton Trains used to get materials and goods to and from areas that boats could not reach. Peter Copper Could carry larger amounts of cargo then steamships.

Technology Using the new ideas to make life “easier”. Machines such as the mechanical reaper/thresher are making the jobs easier for the workers. Steel plow made by John Deere allowed farmers to till new ground in the midwest.
