 Badminton was first played in India by the name “Poona”. - It was played before in many Asian countries but with net, it was first played in India  In the mid 1800 th the British took this game to England and renamed it as “Badminton” - Introduced to the guests of the “Duke of the beaufort”

Serving and Receiving courts O Serve/receive from the right court when opponents has scored an even number of point (2,4,6…) O Serve/receive from the left court when opponents has scored an odd number of point (1,3,5…) ***Service court error occurs when server served to the wrong side or standing in the wrong service court***

Rules of 21! Singles: consists of best 3 games Side scoring 21 points before the opposite team wins Winnings rally adds 1 point to the score sides scoring 2 consecutives points wins (19-21) Side scoring 21-21, 30 th point shall win Doubles: For doubles, 1 service only Back service line will remain same and current rule applies

Should and Shouldn’t  Coin toss- Win  Serve/Receive first or selecting the side of the court O No touching the net with racket/body O No carrying on the shuttlecock O No reaching over the net to hit the shuttlecock O No touching the lines of the court during a serve O A serve must be carried out diagonally to be valid O Point is added to a players when won a rally O When striking the shuttlecock and sending it to the opponents court’s floor, player wins the rally (Fault if crosses the boundary) O Can only be hit once before landing on the other side of the net O Hitting the ceiling is counted as fault SHOULD YOU? OR NOT?

Faults & Lets Faults Lets O Shuttlecock is caught in the net or racket O Is hit by receiver’s partner O Lands outside the boundary O Doesn’t pass over the net O Touches the ceiling, walls, person’s clothing or any other person outside O Distracting an opponents by actions such as shouting or gesture O Serving before the opponent is ready O Server-Receiver both being faulted O Caught on the net and remains suspended O Player of the opposite side being distracted by the coach O Accident occurring

Know how! O Racket grip O Backhand/forehand grip O Shuttlecock serves: O High serve (sends it back end of the court) O Low serve (sends it flying just above the net)

Are you are ready to play? O Hit the shuttle over the net to the opponents court before returned( fast, slow, high or low) O Rally is started with a stroke known as “serve” and this gets the shuttle in to the play Grips Winning the rally requires: O Hitting the shuttle to opponents courts floor Players: O Single (player vs. Player) O Doubles (2 players vs. 2 players)
