Title THE CREATION AND SHARING OF LEARNING OBJECTS THROUGH OPEN SOURCE PLATFORMS BEAT FOR RESINT PROJECT Olivastri Silvio

Page 1 LEARNING OBJECT Learning Object (LO) includes all entities, digital or non-digital, that may be used to learn, educate or train. But in this context we can say that it is a digital content. LO important features: - self-consistent (which may function independently) - interoperable (can operate in differents platforms) - reusable (can be modified and reused by other authors) Olivastri Silvio

Page 2 TOOL To create a LO isn’t easy, specially if you don't know certain computer languages (e.g. HTML, CSS, JavaScript). For this reason we have chosen a web platform that allows to create LO easily, fastly and independently from the used system: BEAT (Bologna E-learning Authoring Tool). We have modified this platform to make it usable for the RESINT project. We have also added a theme, templates and a new structures. Olivastri Silvio

Page 3 BEAT FOR RESINT The main interface is represented below: Olivastri Silvio

Page 4 LO GOAL The primary goal is to help the author in the creation of open and compatible content with the most important open source platforms. We have done this using the main standard established in the field. This isthe start point for creating a MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses). BEAT Create base LO MOODLE (or other platforms) Share LO Export LO Olivastri Silvio

Page 5 POINT OF THE SITUATION Olivastri Silvio In the previeus meeting we showed a short presentation of BEAT and its most important parts to create the learning objects: structures, templates and themes. In the last months, we have: - added a platform online - created new structures and templates - created a tutorial for partners to help them to use the platform

Page 6 NEW STRUCTURES Olivastri Silvio Starting from base structures ( knowledge and meta- competency ) we created new structures based on the modules of the RESINT courses: Distance learning Interactive course Learning by doing Professional course Traditional course

Page 7 EXAMPLE Olivastri Silvio Traditional course outline: Module, title and basic structure Aims of the module Expected learning outcomes Evaluation methodology Syllabus outline Activity References, core text and recommended Internet resource

Page 10 CONCLUSIONS The platform is ready for use, it is available at this address: beat.resint.eubeat.resint.eu We also installed a version of MOODLE here: moodle.resint.eu moodle.resint.eu The tutorial is available in this learning object: LINK (inside, you can download in pdf)LINK Our future prospects are test both platforms and examine users feedback.
