 Emilie-2 nd grade  Energetic and active  Hobbies: collecting jewelry, playing games, watching soccer, playing tennis  Reading and Writing:  Writing her own stories  Favorite type of Books: Sports and animals

-Changes tone of voice -Does not read word by word -Reading for Meaning -Automatic with sight word recognition -Able to recall some of what she reads

-doesn’t always look through entire word -breaking apart words -practice with summarizing -Fluency-phrasing and punctuation

 Vocabulary  Explicit vocabulary instruction, activity  Breaking apart words Initial, middle, and ending sounds  Making Predictions  After book introduction write one sentence about what she thinks will happen next  Summarizing  Pull out main ideas from text and write them in her journal  Fluency  Repeated readings, partner readings, poetry
