The Framework for the NYS Regents Research Paper Requirement

Our Overall Charge: Develop the SCSD protocol that meets and exceeds the Regents Research Paper process and product requirements. 2

Objectives for Today’s Meeting: State the minimum requirements for the NYS Regents Research Paper Study the Regents Research Paper Policies (which will need further development by this committee) Identify the suggested Regents Research Paper Guidelines and Responsibilities View the Regents Research Paper Procedural Checklist View the Regents Research Paper Rubric Identify all of the steps needed to develop the SCSD protocol in order to meet and exceed the minimum Regents Research Paper Requirements

Brief History of the Regents Research Paper April 2013 – Proposal to Regents Board to require a Regents Research Paper  English Teacher Responsible for the instruction of skills and adherence to the process.  The Research Paper must be completed and graded with sufficient time prior to the student taking the Regents Exam in ELA.  This proposed addition would apply to all students entering grade nine in September 2013 or later. THESE THREE STIPULATIONS HAVE NOW CHANGED!!! 4

Brief History of the Regents Research Paper June 2013 – Revised Proposal to Regents Board to require a Regents Research Paper  Instruction and guidance in the research process will occur in English class to address CCLS. However, the educator(s) within the school responsible for coordination, logistics, and scoring the paper can be determined locally by the school district or building principal.  This proposed addition would apply to all students entering grade nine in September 2014 or later. THE FIRST STIPULATION HAS NOW CHANGED!!! 5
