INCA The Inca empire began around the 1200’s in the country of Peru In the 1400’s, the Inca began expanding their boundaries P. 90 in GEORGIA crct book

INCA By 1438, the Inca ruled most of the western coast of South America (led by Pachakuti Inca) In the Inca language is Quechua. This means “to fight.” It can also mean “to enjoy oneself.”

INCA The Inca religion was based on their god Viracocha Viracocha-Inca god of creation. Inti- Inca sun god Mama Quilla- Goddess of the Moon Supai- God of death

INCA Cuzco was the center of government, religion, and trade in the Inca empire. It was essentially their capital city.

INCA The Inca were very good farmers. They used methods such as irrigation, for enriching the soil, and terracing. The Inca also had over 19,000 miles of roads.

INCA Machu Picchu is the most famous Inca city. It was discovered in 1911 by a man named Hiram Bingham Machu Picchu is located in the country of Peru.

INCA Everything was great in the Incan world, until 1531 when the Spanish showed up. That Spaniard was… Francisco Pizarro.

INCA At the time of Pizarro’s arrival, the Inca had just concluded a civil war. This left the Inca weak. The leader of the Inca at the time was a man named Atahualpa

INCA Pizarro knew that 160 men would not be enough to defeat the Inca, so he pulled a fast one. When Atahualpa went to meet with Pizarro, they kidnapped him.

INCA Once he was kidnapped, Atahualpa promised Pizarro that he would fill the room they were in once with gold and twice with silver. Pizarro said if he did that, he would free him.

INCA Atahualpa delivers with the gold and silver, then Pizarro goes back on his word and kills Atahualpa. Without Atahualpa to lead them, the Inca would fall to the Spanish by 1535.
