The PRECIS License Agreement
Some important definitions in the licence Licence – a legal agreement between the Met Office and the licensee Licensee – the institution granted the licence PRECIS software: Executables, source and control code of the PRECIS RCM; a set of sample lateral boundary conditions for driving the RCM; installation software; software for setting up, controlling and monitoring the RCM; software for managing and post-processing output data; documentation; any amendments, improvements or upgrades which we may provide
Definitions of permitted use Educational use – in the course of teaching or generating teaching materials Internal business use – use by staff in the course of the day-to-day business of the institute/company – excludes sharing of the software with third parties Non-commercial research – original investigation not commissioned exclusively by the private sector – Results not to be used to build commercial relationships – Results to made public and freely available (or at the cost of delivery) – Research aims to be summarised for and to the satisfaction of the Met Office
Obligations of the licensee Acknowledge PRECIS and the Met Office in any publications or presentation using results from PRECIS Provide the Met Office with an annual update on the results obtained with PRECIS and any associated work Provide the Met Office a copy of any papers publishing work with PRECIS or conclusions or findings if no papers result The licensee should not: – Distribute, licence, sell etc. PRECIS or any components to third parties without permission from the Met Office – Use PRECIS or its outputs to generate a commercial benefit – Do anything that may bring the name of the Met Office into disrepute
The licensee By virtue of attending this workshop, you are licensed for the lifetime of PRECIS 2, provided you keep to the terms set out in the license agreement. You are entitled to any model updates, including new boundary data and new versions of the PRECIS 2 software. You are entitled to a basic level of technical support and scientific guidance. If you switch employment to another not-for-profit company, you can take the PRECIS license with you. Others in your company/institute are able to use PRECIS under your supervision.
