How to Sign Up for Bookshare (Schools) December 2011

Two membership options

Plan Your Membership District or University System Intermediate Unit Most direct method. Individual teachers/staff ready to serve and download books for students For broader visibility into all students in district. For better district-wide reporting, include an identifier in org name, such as district acronym. If AT, VI or Special Ed services span multiple districts. (multiple LEAs) School or University 3

How to Sign Up for Bookshare  Identify a Primary Contact  Create account online  Agree to Bookshare terms  Add Sponsors (teachers) and qualified Members (Students) 4

Create Your Account Online  select “Sign up”  Select “Organizational”  Complete information on your organization  Complete information on Primary Contact  Watch for “Welcome” 5

Complete Your Registration: Your “Welcome”  Check your Inbox as well as your spam filter  Open and read the  Select link on bottom of page  Create your password 6

FAX Organizational Agreement  Books for readers with print disabilities only  Print disability, legal definition  Book file sharing not allowed  Consequences of copyright violation  Additional Staff Sponsors – No Login Sharing!  Member roster maintenance  Individual student memberships  Volunteer to add accessible media  Payment for Members who are not U.S. students  Further details: personal use, downloads per Member, agreement renewal, NIMAS books, terms of Org agreement 7

Add One or More Sponsors  Sponsors download books for students  An account can have many Sponsors  Primary Contacts can also download books  Sponsors agree to terms  Each Sponsor has his/her own password Sponsor examples: Teacher, VI teacher, Special Education teacher, Special Education Director, Itinerant teacher, AT Specialist, Resource Specialist, Librarian, Counselor, Administrative Assistant 8

Add Members (Students) and Sponsors (Educators): 3 Ways 1.Individually  Ideal for adding only a few Members or Sponsors  Additions show up on your account immediately 2.As a Group – Using the Provided Roster  Ideal for adding a longer list of Members or Sponsors  Upload to Bookshare; the new Members and Sponsors will be in your account in 1-2 days 3.Using a Provided Form  Only applies to certain organizations  If yours is one of them, you will be prompted to do this 9

11 Need More Help?  Utilize NEW Online Support Center under “Help” Tab  Submit Questions to Bookshare using “Contact Us”  Select the appropriate category under “My question is about”  Provide details of the help that you need  Include your name and contact information  The appropriate member of the Bookshare team will address your question promptly!
