Course Description The course provides a systematic, practical and comprehensive introduction to the issues involved in developing, implementing, and evaluating a sound, rational and effective English language teaching (ELT) program.

Aims Help students understand the concepts of development, process, change and evaluation in curriculum and materials design, with particular reference to ELT Help them explore the factors affecting curriculum development and their impact on materials design Help them explore innovations, especially the role of technology in curriculum development

Objectives Upon completion of this subject, students should be able to: Understand the changes and development of curriculum design in ELT Understand the principles and process of curriculum development and materials design Apply the principles by analyzing a school curriculum and developing teaching materials

Teaching Methods Lectures Lectures will cover the principles, process, needs analysis and evaluation methods for curriculum development/ change and materials design. Discussions Discussions about the design of different curricula and teaching materials will be arranged.
