Creating new curriculum and leading a pedagogical change Ari Pokka President International Confederation of Principals

Paths of Educational change Education leaders in national and school level must be aware of changes in world education policy, Global world needs a global acts, which must be rewrite part of the national curriculum. Education is not a competition, but right movements gives a nation a possibillity to rise their standards in the world level.

Three things to remember Educational development is only possible if you: Invest pedagogical leadership and teachers training. Use your financial and human resources effectively Develop a whole school system, not jus one part of it.

Leading a pedagogical change Pedagogical change need a trustful relationship between education policy makers and school leaders. It need a common planning, ethical values and long term commitment to develop all the aspects of education system. It need a continuous evaluation, which is not punish the school, but encourage their own developing work.

Autonomy vs. control On the long run to rise an autonomy will be an effective way to rise educational standards. Autonomy need a good national guidelines, national curriculum and evaluation plan. Autonomy need a big investments to rise a quality of teachers and school leaders. SCHOOL AUTONOMY WILL PAY IT ALL BACK.

Leading a pedagogical change in school level The most important thing to manage educational change is always ask: – How are we doing that? – What is a purpose – How it will be help our kids in the future? – How it develop school and education in big picture?

Curriculum Curriculum is the main thing to rise educational standards and bring forth an educational changes. Pedagogical leadership is essential part of it, but we must remember that it is not only game of intellectual aims. Curriculum must be create so, that all the participants in learning community will understand its meanings.

Pedagogical leadership Pedagogical leadership is: Develop and taking care of human resources Create a new kind of learning environments Using school funding and other material resources effective way Create a school culture where all the participants can recognize moral and legal guidelines

Challenges Long term vs. short term planning – are somebody waiting for easy victories? World ranking – PISA and other worldwide assessments. How the society rise the standards in health and social services, family life etc. which a strongly related educational changes. How our youth see the meaning of education?
