DENSITY EXPERIMENT By Christopher / 6A
Problem/Question Problem: Will object with different density make something that fall to it fall faster than the ones that have less density? Question: Will different kinds of liquid make an object sink faster or slower?
Observation/Research Density is the mass compiled inside something that is compressed when something is getting smaller. For example when you compress a clay from a big one into a small one, it will have more density in it. The things with more density in it will make something sink slower than the ones with less density.
Hypothesis If the coin is put in the cola bottle, it will sink slower than in the water bottle.
Independent Variable Different types of water: Oil, water and cola
Dependent Variable In this case it would be the time needed for the coin to sink
Control Variable The things that I keep the same are the bottles, coin and stopwatch.
Experiment (Materials and Equipments) MaterialsEquipments Oil Water Cola Stopwatch Bottles Coins
Experiment (1 st Procedure) 1. We pour water, oil, and cola to 3 different bottles (transparent bottle) 2.Measure the time needed when you drop the coin to the water. 3.Repeat what you did to the oil and cola 4.Record the data Materials and equipment: oil, water, cola, stopwatch, bottles, coins Cola needed 5.89 seconds Oil needed 1,40 seconds Water needed 1,05 seconds
Experiment (2 nd Procedure) 1.We pour water, oil, and cola to 3 different bottles (transparent bottle) 2.Measure the time needed when you drop the coin to the water. 3.Repeat what you did to the oil and cola 4.Record the data Materials and equipment: oil, water, cola, stopwatch, bottles, coins Cola needed 5.54 seconds Oil needed 1.97 seconds Water needed 0.77 seconds
Experiment (3 rd Procedure) 1.We pour water, oil, and cola to 3 different bottles (transparent bottle) 2.Measure the time needed when you drop the coin to the water. 3.Repeat what you did to the oil and cola 4.Record the data Materials and equipment: oil, water, cola, stopwatch, bottles, coins Cola needed 5.27 seconds Oil needed 1.46 seconds Water needed 1.14 seconds

Conclusion So my hypothesis is right because when I put the coin in the oil and cola, it sinks slower than in the water because cola and oil has more density than water so an object sinks slower in it.
