COFUND gives a great opportunity to independent stakeholders to co-operate and design an original fellowship programme that accommodates both the Marie- Sklodowska-Curie rules as well as their own international invitation policies: -Marie-Sklodowska Curie Actions standards -Delegation of scientific selection and recruitment -Multi-partner project with a single beneficiary (more than a dozen Institutes for Advanced Study in almost half of EU 27) 2 COFUND : A powerful incentive to team-up

EURIAS Grant Agreement -Overall budget: 6m€ / EC Contribution: 2m€ -14 IAS in 12 EU countries EURIAS Grant Agreement -Overall budget: 15m€ / EC Contribution: 5,9m€ -16 IAS in 12 EU countries 3 COFUND : A powerful incentive to team-up

MUTUALISING GOOD PRACTICES AND EU PRIORITIES : -Open calls for applications -Worldwide communication strategy -Transparent peer-review process -Selection based on excellence and innovation -Simplification and upgrading of the recruitment procedure 4 EURIAS : Aligning the practices with the European Standards

A UNIFIED ACCESS TO IAS FELLOWSHIPS… -Worldwide joint communication -Common application process -Common selection process … ATTRACTING A WORLDWIDE AUDIENCE -Sustained flow of 850 applications per year (over 3,500 since the beginning of the programme) for some 40 fellowships per year online consultations from 185 countries 5 EURIAS: A single gateway to European IAS to reach the proper scale

The COFUND Action supported IAS in their efforts to develop fellows’ skills and capabilities by broadening their research horizons and boosting their academic networks. -Fostering innovation (fixed research cost contribution) -Mentoring scheme for younger fellows -Individual scientific records and academic careers -Long-term scientific relations with leading international scholars 6 EURIAS: A stepping-stone in the fellows’ career paths

The COFUND Action furthered the recognition of the Institutes for Advanced Study’s contribution to research excellence and innovation and their impact on the researchers’ careers: -Experiencing unique international and cross- disciplinary learning centers -Promoting dialogue between scholars (between and beyond the Social Sciences and the Humanities) -Promoting international grant applications to unfold the innovation potential 7 COFUND : Nurturing new scientific paradigms to address Societal Challenges
