“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints” –KJV Jude 3 2

Strong - To struggle for Barnes - The word here rendered earnestly contend…is one of those words used by the sacred writers which have allusion to the Grecian games…It means to contend upon-i. e. for or about anything; and would be applicable to the earnest effort put forth in those games to obtain the prize.
