Factoring Review: Horse Race September 25, 2015

2. Factor completely: 6x2 +7x − 49 Quick Check The length of a rectangle is 4 ft more than twice the width. The area of the rectangle is 48 ft2. Find the length and the width of the rectangle. (Hint: Draw a picture!) 2. Factor completely: 6x2 +7x − 49

Objective and Homework Objective: Students will practice factoring polynomials with leading coefficients of 1 and greater than 1 in order to review their knowledge from previous lessons. Homework: Complete the “Can You Decipher the Quotation?” worksheet. Are there any questions from last night’s homework?

Factoring Rule Before we begin Factoring by Grouping, we have to make sure the polynomial is factored as much as possible first. In the problems below, what can be factored out before we begin our process of factoring by grouping? 12x2+12x+3 5a2-180

Horse Race Activity There are eight stations you need to complete. You will be working in pairs. Everyone begins the race at the same time, but you are not competing against everyone. Your group will be competing with one other group. Ms. Denhard will place your game pieces on the board. Your game piece might not start at station 1. If you start at station 4, you end the race at station 3. The two groups competing against each other will start at the same station. You must have your answers checked before you move on. Erase the answers to your station’s questions once you have been checked. You may use the hint cards if needed.
