Getting back into work ReAct Funding If people have been made redundant, or are about to be made redundant, they may be eligible for funding to develop new skills. This will improve their chances of returning to work in the shortest time possible.

For the unemployed Skill Build: If people are unemployed Skillbuild can help give them the skills and experience they need to get and stay in a job. This programme is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government for unemployed 16 – 17 year olds.

Skill Build The purpose of this training is to enable the young people to gain valuable work experience in a sector they may consider as a chosen career path. Initially the young people will attend classes in the college to develop skills such as: Life/social skills; Interviewing techniques; I.T. Training; Motivational skills etc.

Skill Build After developing these skills the college will organise a 13 week work placement to enable the young person to gain some valuable experience in an area of work the have shown an interest in; At best this may lead to the employer taking on the young person as an employee or apprentice; At worst the young person will have developed knowledge and skills in the workplace.

Skill Build Skillbuild candidates are paid £50 a week by the government whilst they are on programme. For organisations who take young people on placements there is no cost to them. Everybody wins – young people gain additional skills to make them more employable. Employers have the opportunity of assessing whether to employ the person, depending on their performance during the placement.

Skill Build In addition to Skillbuild for 16 to 17 year olds the government has launched ‘Adult’ Skill build which operates on similar principles. This is of great use to adults who may have worked all their life in one sector and been recently made redundant. They may need to develop new skills to enhance their employability.

Any questions?
