EFRTC GENERAL MEETING Brussels - November 28th, 2008 Association of Corporate Bodies,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Czech Technological Platform Josef JÍRA, Ivo MALINA Czech Technical University in Prague Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

Czech Technological Platform (SIZI) - Who we are? Twelve industrial companies of the Czech Republic acting in the area –of construction of railway tracks –their electrification, –communication and signalling equipment Four faculties of three universities Four research and design institutes

Form of co-operation This form is a part of the intention “Operational programme of Business Activities and Innovation” managed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This programme was approved by the European Commission. Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

Target of Technological Platform SIZI Achievement of production conformity of the Czech industrial companies with Interoperability demands of the Trans- European conventional and high-speed railway system Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

How to achieve this target SIZI submitted or is submitting 17 projects for proposal at different Czech national and European programmes CZ – Operational Programme of Business Activities and Innovation CZ - Operational Programme of Research and Development for Innovation CZ - Operational Programme of Supra-national Cooperation EU - FP of Research and Development Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

How to achieve this target The projects create a package with factual link-ups and duplicity eliminating within the package also in relation to another programmes of similar orientation. Real background of projects demands on the projects were formulated by SIZI industrial partners, projects designed by universities or research institutes were confirmed by the industrial partners. Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

SIZI other activities Another activities of the SIZI are also significant: Education and international cooperation International conference “Railway Infrastructure Interoperability in the Central European Countries” When: March 3, 2009 Where: Czech Technical University in Prague Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

Advantages of our SIZI system conception 1/3 Significant participation of scientific, research, development, and testing-line workplaces in the Technological Platform activities. Participation of universities and research institutes on this project represents their unique opportunity to take part in building of the Trans-European railway system whose main mean is determined by the demanded interoperability. Interoperability represents an important innovation impulse and is means of increasing competitive ability of industry. The project is also the direct response on EU´s decision on preference of the European railway transport as more environmental technical mode of transport. Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

Advantages of our SIZI system conception 2/3 Link-ups of companies industrial activities (Technological Platform members) on industrial activities fields (NACE) preferred by EU. SIZI respects not only relevant interoperability possibilities (TSI, following European standards, UIC regulations, UNISIG SUBSETs), but participates in their preparation in EU expert WGs. Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

Advantages of our SIZI system conception 3/3 Use of results of following European projects as, e.g. INNOTRACK, EUROPACK, RAILENERGY, EURO- INTERLOCKING, and the new project of EU-FP7 – INESS is another advantage. SIZI activity to neighbouring countries in the European project “Interoperability as a Tool of cross-border Railway Transport Optimisation” is also very important. Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform

Verification of interoperability production and products Verification of industrial production owing to interoperability demands is made by accredited testing laboratories and their results are interpreted by authorised and notified bodies. The Technological Platform closely cooperates with accredited laboratories and notified bodies of the Czech and Slovak Republic under the Agreement on cooperation of laboratories and notified bodies. Association of Corporate Bodies -,,Interoperability of Railway Infrastructure“ Technological Platform
