TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE TCM

INTRODUCTION

Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), with a history of thousands of years, is a summary of rich experience of Chinese people for a long period of struggle against disease.

1.Major books 《 Huangdi’s Classic of Internal medicine 》 The book establishes the basis of TCM theory. Including,visceral picture, pathology, diagnostics, syndrome differentiation, meridians etiology, therapeutic principle, acupuncture and moxibustion, and decoction treatment.

《 Classic on Medical Problems 》 81 medical problems

《 Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic 》 It is believed that the book was compiled in the Han dynasty, in name of Shen Nong ( a legendary figure). In the book, 365 kinds of herbs are recorded.

2. Difference between TCM and modern west medicine TCM is the summarization of careful observation and clinical experience accumulated over thousands of years and approached in the light of traditional Chinese philosophy.

Research into the integration of TCM and modern Western medicine has been extensively conducted. Therefore, TCM has not only been preserved, but also greatly developed.

3.Essential Characteristics of Theoretical System

⑴ Concept of holistic being ⑵ Treatment determined based on differentiation of syndromes (3)Permanence of movement

Syndrome differentiation : to analyze and synthesize clinical data, symptoms and signs of a patient collected by way of the four diagnostic methods (a joint term for inspection, auscultation and olfaction, interrogation, pulse feeling and palpation), finding out the cause 、 nature 、 location of disease, and the situation about fight between the body’s vital-Qi and the evil-Qi in a stage, thus determining and summarizing a certain syndrome.

Treatment determination : to decide an appropriate therapeutic measure according to the conclusion of syndrome differentiation.

Case1 male, 46y, congested eyes, bitter taste in the mouth, dysphoria, irritability, distention of chest, red tongue with yellow coating, taut and fast pulse.
